EAST HOLLYWOOD — Authorities have identified the man fatally shot by police during a burglary call in East Hollywood early Thursday morning as 27-year-old Victor Manuel Carrillo.

The incident began around 4 a.m. when Los Angeles Police Department officers from the Rampart Division responded to multiple reports of a break-in at an apartment complex on Alexandria Avenue.

According to police, Carrillo was spotted near a second-floor entrance and began throwing lumber, ceramic pots, and other objects at officers while holding a knife. Officers deployed less-lethal munitions, but Carrillo fled and forced his way into an apartment through a window.

Inside, investigators say Carrillo confronted officers with a knife and a metal chair. Officers then opened fire, striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police recovered the knife, lumber, and metal chair as evidence. One officer was struck by lumber but declined medical treatment.

Two residents were also injured during a struggle with Carrillo as he attempted to enter their unit. One was treated by LAFD at the scene, while the other declined medical care.

The LAPD says the shooting remains under investigation.
