East Hollywood Encampment Cleared After Residents Appeal for Help

EAST HOLLYWOOD — Relief has finally arrived for residents along Sierra Vista Avenue after months of frustration over a large encampment that had taken over the neighborhood.

Neighbors first raised concerns in April, reaching out to 7 On Your Side Investigates after the tents and tarps began overflowing with everything from trophies and shoes to solar panels, spilling into the street and sidewalks.

On Thursday, the City of Los Angeles responded. Mayor Karen Bass’ Inside Safe program, which focuses on moving unhoused residents indoors, cleared the encampment and relocated about 20 people into shelters.

“This is a long time coming,” said Keith Johnson, a nearby resident who first contacted the station. “It’s just great they’re following up. We’re headed in the right direction.”

City officials say those who were moved will now have access to food, case management, and relief from the week’s extreme heat.

“We have listened, we have heard you, we have resolved it,” said Annetta Kidane, senior director of Inside Safe.

For many locals, the cleanup marks a long-awaited step toward restoring safety and accessibility in the community.
